CASTING IDENTITY
an iceland travelogue

i'm afraid i've done you a disservice by not having a camera with me today. on the drive to egilsstadir the dark grey clouds began to fracture into many differing shades at many different distances. you could see, 50 miles distant, the snow covered hills fading in and out of view through the clouds. a spear of light appeared across the valley and widened, sliding over the light jade lake brimming with whitecaps. it soon overcame us and everything was soaked in color - bright sticky color. ahead, the clouds were still dark above the shrouded hills. a pocket of coloured light appeared to our left and began to strengthen. the colors became rich as it climbed above us and connected with another arching beam of colour anchored near the base of the hills four miles away. this rainbow - complete - bright - against the dark sky - tucked under another larger rainbow about 6 miles in diameter. then i started laughing as snow geese leapt from a small outcropping and flew threw the scene, slaloming through beams of light in front of us, completing the postcard before descending to the lake. just as quickly, the light shifted, the color evaporated and it began to rain. there is no way to describe this place... i feel at home... at peace.

here is one from a few days ago.
