![]() CLICK TO VIEW A MOVIE OF IMAGES (3.9 MB) You can pause and move through the images at your own pace. ![]() departure (8/30/04)reykjavik (8/31/04)reykjavik (9/01/04)air iceland (9/01/04)skriduklaustur (9/01/04)we went for a walk today (9/02/04)we went for a drive today (9/03/04)eystra (9/08/04)aloft (9/20/04)LAST POST: SEPT 27, 2004 closing thoughts (9/27/04)i have been here long enough to feel the fog of autumn dissolve into the crisp clear cold of the encroaching winter. the moon has returned and the geese now migrate by night - their haphazard V formations tracing strange constellations against the stars. the sheep have been funneled down the valleys for the autumn gathering and the stone ring now lies quiet in the night air. the trammeling of grass and the groans of frightened sheep blended with the joyous calls of children and the murmur of the men and horses. the lambs were off to slaughter and the other sheep, set free, sprayed out into the fields like masses of white ants springing from the ditches. every now and then you see a sheep come out of the woods, having avoided the gathering, still paranoid, unsure if it is safe to go home. the highlands lie desolate and cold and the snowcap descends week to week. trumpeter swans forage in the long frigid pools scattered along the roadside. in the distance, the mountain breathes under a fog of lens shaped clouds and exhales blue sky and bursts of light. off to reykjavik tomorrow - four days then i'll return home.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
