At the Palace of Fine Arts Lagoon, a Pigeon puts on the brakes.

An interloper tries his luck over an already occupied Osprey nest in Point Reyes.

With the interloper banished, the pair rest near the nest.

One of the Glen Park Great Horned Owl chicks stays cool during a recent spell of hot weather.

Tilden Park had plenty of birds in the trees and several ring-necked snakes underfoot.

Plants drifting on South Lake in Golden Gate Park.

A young Red-tail leaps into the wind along a road in Point Reyes.

A Eucalyptus in Golden Gate Park.

A Mallard at South Lake lands smoothly while in pursuit of the resident female.

Graceful, even in death, this Great Horned Owl suffered an untimely death, most likely electrocuted by the power lines it could not release.

A Red-shouldered Hawk comes over to investigate/threaten the strange new figure in its midst.

At North Lake, a Red-winged Blackbird takes flight to run off a rival.

At Sutro Heights Park, a male Red-tailed Hawk makes a final approach as it keeps a gopher in sight. The gopher got lucky this time.

Moments earlier, the hawk left its perch with conviction.

Sending an unmistakable warning to the individual who happened to be paying attention to the nest tree.

Striking plumage makes Red-shouldered Hawks some of our loveliest birds of prey.

El Polin Springs - an Allen's Hummingbird spends a moment resting in between territorial battles.

A very shy Crossbill came down to bathe as well.

Getting at those hard to reach places is easier in a waterfall.

Wonderfully aerobatic, an Allen's does the twist.

Shaking off like a tiny tiny dog.

Below Stow Lake, a Great Blue Heron hits the jackpot.

At Crissy filed this Heron watches the sky while being ignored by passers by.

Yes, yet another Heron and bridge shot.

A Snowy Egret dances off stage left at the behest of an angry local.

A Mallard pair at Lake Merritt.

As common as they are I still find them beautiful and quite interesting, particularly during the springtime.

Returning to earth in synchrony.

A Night Heron deals with a swirling wind.

A Lewis' Woodpecker near Mines Road.

A Turkey Vulture shows a touch of grace.

Saved from being smashed by a late swerve, a Gopher Snake continues on its mission undeterred.

A Great Blue Heron, full of gophers, in flight.

Being regarded with suspicion in the Presidio.
