Late afternoon at the Palace of Fine Arts and early evening at Sutro Baths. I'm heading out for a few days... so here is a variety pack of images to check out till I return... all shot today.

Flying in theatrical light at the Palace of Fine Arts.

Heading the into the sun this time.

A Ring-necked Duck on cruise control.

A Canada Gosling.

Protective custody.

A young gull tries to eat a gosling and is thoroughly trounced by the furious parents. It was held underwater by the geese until it relented.

Drying off in triumph.

A male Pigeon displays intensely for a female.

A young gull takes interest.

A Brewer's Blackbird takes a drink in the bird bath at Sutro Heights Park.

I located the male Red-tail resting on the crag in the middle of Sutro Baths. Low winds had ruled out kiting so perch hunting was the ticket. Here he leaves on a mission toward the cliff house. Later I found him on a favorite rock eating a freshly caught gopher.

As is the routine... eat half the prey, then bring the rest back to the nest. The female isn't coming for food exchanges anymore. With little breeze to help out, the male flew in circles to gain altitude and drizzled gopher bits over the curious photographer.

Straight from the camera... the light was stellar and yellow earlier at Sutro.

Sea you next week.
