El Polin Springs and Sutro Heights Park illustrate that tiny feathered experiences can be just as good as having a hawk at your feet.

A Violet-green Swallow foraging over the grass at El Polin Spring.

At Sutro Heights a lovely goldfinch rests for a very brief moment.

A thirsty Anna's takes a drink.

A White-crowned Sparrow and her gigantic baby Cowbird.

So hard to photograph... Close but not quite.

A Hooded Oriole sneaks through the trees at Sutro.

Tucked into the shade during the hottest part of the day, this Chestnut-backed Chickadee searches for food.

A Robin sunning its wings.

Robins kept turning up with red bills and I wondered if they'd become carnivorous... but that mystery was soon solved.

This Allen's Hummingbird has an injured eye but seems to be doing well otherwise.

Here he bathes in the spring...

only to be interrupted. Apparently territorial disputes don't get put on hold during bathtime.

The injured Allen's landed near me and I was able to get this shot of his plumage.

One of the others investigating the spring.

An Anna's bathing vigorously.

Giving the wings a good soaking seems a precursor to the bathing ritual.
