MUTATO NOMINE DE TE FABULA NARATUR - THE PIGEON PROJECT An installation which invites a population of urban pigeons to enter the structure, finding food and shelter. Each interior ledge is weight sensitive. The natural behavior of the birds triggers turntables and sound sculptures built into the exterior of the structure. This work was exhibited February 15 - March 16, 2002 at the Luggage Store Gallery in San Francisco. Special thanks to Laurie and Darryl for their trust and vision. ![]() The installation newly completed. ![]() This acoustic paper bell amplified the sound of the record when pigeons triggered the rotation of the platter. There was a weight sensitive feeding platform on the other side of the wall. ![]() This part of the installation featured a record suspended by taught strings near pigeon feathers. When the birds would land inside, their weight triggered the propellor, which disturbed the air and caused the feathers to gently strike the strings, playing music. ![]() This was the FIRST pigeon to enter the piece. As seen through one of the peepholes I set into the walls and access door. |
